Heather McKelvey, Freelance Web Designer and WordPress Website Coach

Welcome to SitesOnMain.com! I’m glad you stopped in.  My name is Heather McKelvey, and I am the founder of Main Street Web Development.

I’ve been building websites as a freelance web designer since 2004.  I started in the dark ages with tables-based HTML, and I gradually worked my way in to XHTML and CSS, with custom design using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

Everything I know about web design I learned on my own from the internet, with the help of a few select books.  I guess this proves my college professors were accurate when they told me that you don’t go to college to learn a skill.  You go to college to learn how to learn.

I’m grateful for my Bachelor of Science in Health Information Administration, which I earned from Louisiana Tech University in 2000.  I’ve put it to good use in some top-notch hospitals, like Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital and UAB Hospital, among others.

But when it comes down to it, when I do what I love, I am teaching others how to do something new.  And that’s why I’ve added WordPress Website Coaching to my freelance web design business.  I know there are others out there who would love to have the pleasure of creating their own website.  And the information is all just sitting out there waiting to be learned!

For some, finding the right information and putting it all together is just a little too overwhelming.  I have gained website-building knowledge over the course of more than a decade and through the experience of creating dozens of websites.  I have compiled all of this information into a personal, one-to-one coaching format, in which I walk you through the steps to building your own website, without your wasting hours on Google searches and web design forums.

If you’ve ever been to my blog William and Heather Kate, you know I’m all about making stuff and teaching other people how to do the same.  Over there I blog about making things you can actually touch, like with knitting, crocheting, sewing, and baking.  On the rare occasion that I find myself not making, teaching, or otherwise managing a household of four, I steal a few minutes at the piano or even grab a few balls to juggle.  I gotta practice my balancing act, you know!

I would love to hear your thoughts about making your own website.  Is it something you’ve ever considered?  Do you want a skill that you can even translate into a stream of income?  Contact me so we can dialogue about how you can get started with web design!
